What to Expect:
Our Theme – Capturing the Mind of Christ in a World Gone Mad
Our Goal – To Re-direct our thinking as we focus on Worship through Bible Study, Music and Fellowship with other believers.
Our Approach – As we discuss the trajectory of this world and how it has affected our thinking through social media, entertainment and other ways, we will go to the Bible to find the rescuing truths of God’s Word. Philippians will be a focal point as we explore how God thinks about what is happening in our world today, what He intends to do in and through each of us and some very practical ways to capture His mind. Some of the things we will explore are:
- the focal poem that changes everything
- some steps to guarding your mind
- how what goes into the mind comes out in the life
- the influence of music on how we think
- the impact you have on the way your family thinks
- how our prayers grow out of our thought life
- capturing a mindset of worship
- capturing the mindset of Christ for your marriage.
Other things on the schedule will include:
- Food and Fellowship around the tables in the beautiful Dining Hall
- Time for visiting by the fireplaces or on the walking trails
- A free afternoon on Saturday to explore or rest
- The Lord’s Day Worship Service and Sharing on Sunday morning.
Teaching by Delaine Blackwell
Delaine has studied and passionately taught God’s Word for more than 30 years. Currently, she is the teaching director for Community Bible Study in Columbia, SC. Also, as one of the founders of Joy of Abiding, she teaches women’s conferences and leads Bible study tours in the Bible Lands. Her delight is to disciple women and see them fall in love with Jesus Christ, walk in the truths of the Bible and in the power of the Holy Spirit. She believes that when you disciple a woman, you disciple the world.
Delaine grew up in Greer, SC, graduated with a BA from Furman University and a MEd. from the University of South Carolina. Currently, she serves on the Board of Jerusalem University College, located on Mt. Zion in Jerusalem. She has been married to Mike for 50 years and enjoys life with her two sons, daughters-in-law and nine grandchildren.
Music led by One Purpose
One Purpose is a music and teaching ministry. Laura Christy, Beth Greer and Miriam Beacham have been singing together since 1991, leading in worship at women’s retreats conferences, revivals and concerts. They have helped to lead worship at JOA conferences since its beginning. Duchess Raehn will provide the piano accompaniment for One Purpose and for corporate worship.
A Personal Testimony by Jenny Walsh
Jenny loves to tell others about how she became a Christian the summer after graduating from high school and how she has been held by the Lord ever since. She and her husband, John, have been married for thirty-three years and have four adult children. She has lived in Columbia, South Carolina since 1995 when she and her husband were stationed there with the U.S. Army. She is a family practice physician, who provided patient care for 14 years before the Lord led her into a discipleship and prayer ministry. She is known as a woman who pours her life into helping women capture the mind of Christ in every area of their lives. Her personal story may surprise you as well as challenge you to live as a woman with a heavenly mindset.
